SKI/SNOWBOARD TOUR ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE & SCORING

For Immediate Release

Thursday, January 2, 2020

ALTON BAY, NH – January 2, 2020 – The Vertical Challenge Presented by Chevrolet tour today announced its season schedule of family ski and snowboard races along with a new scoring system designed to provide racers with new opportunities. The racing begins January 4, 2020 at Windham Mountain in upstate New York.

“We’re excited to return to New York this year, and also visit our friends in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine this season,” said VC founder Frank Tansey. “We’ve added some of the Northeast’s top resorts as we continue to grow the tour.”

The Vertical Challenge Presented by Chevrolet is a series of free casual ski and snowboard races open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities. All entrants need to do is purchase a lift ticket from the host mountain and complete a registration form, which can be done in advance at ski-vc.com. The top three finishers in each category qualify for the finals, which Vermont’s Jay Peak Resort will host Saturday, March 28, 2020.

The VC has partnered this year with NASTAR (NAtional STAndard Race), a division of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Federation, to utilize the organization’s race scoring system. Its adoption means competitors’ results at VC tour events will earn points toward NASTAR rankings.

“We’ve thought for a while that we’d like to show our top competitors a path to expand their racing options,” said Tansey. “We’ll always provide a fun environment for everyone from first-time racers to accomplished veterans, and we appreciate Bill Madsen and his crew at NASTAR for letting us work with them to provide additional opportunities to top finishers.

In addition to the racing, each event has a festival element, featuring snowy activities for all ages and prizes given away throughout an enjoyable day at the mountain. To complement the fun and fitness, the tour aims to connect with its participants at a deeper level.

“Our crew looks to mentor young racers,” said Tansey. “We help them realize they can achieve something in the sport, and also that kids can help kids though our charitable partners, Make-A-Wish New Hampshire and Cynthia’s Challenge.”

Pepsico will continue its longtime support of the tour and attendees can look forward to sampling the company’s exciting beverage flavors. Chevrolet returns as presenting sponsor and the official vehicle of the VC.

After Windham, the tour makes its first of six visits to New Hampshire on January 11 at Cranmore. Besides Windham, new additions to the schedule since last year include Smuggler’s Notch, Catamount, Lost Valley, Suicide Six, and Berkshire East. Whiteface Lake Placid will again host The Chevrolet Experience January 18 and 19, 2020. The annual Cynthia’s Challenge 24-hour ski-a-thon and fundraiser happens March 13-14 at King Pine in New Hampshire.
