SMUGGLERS’ NOTCH, VT – January 23, 2020 – Vermont families who ski and snowboard will have an opportunity to compete together as the Vertical Challenge Presented by Chevrolet visits Smugglers’ Notch Sunday.

The VC is a series of free casual ski and snowboard races open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities. In addition to the racing, each event has a festival element, featuring snowy activities for all ages and prizes given away throughout an enjoyable day at the mountain. The event also features fundraisers for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“We love coming to Vermont,” said VC founder Frank Tansey. “Our goal is to make sure every member of the family has fun and makes great memories, especially if this is their first time to come to the event.”

The VC last visited Smugglers’ Notch during the 1999-2000 season, so this weekend may see lots of first-time participants. The tour is structured to appeal to both first-time racers and experienced downhill skiers and snowboarders. The VC has partnered this year with NASTAR (NAtional STAndard Race), a division of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Federation, to utilize the organization’s race scoring system. So competitors’ results at VC tour events do count toward NASTAR rankings.

All entrants need to do is purchase a lift ticket from Smugglers’ Notch and complete a registration form, which can be done in advance at ski-vc.com (recommended) or onsite Sunday morning beginning at 7:30. Racing will be between 11am and 1pm, with awards ceremonies to follow. The top three finishers in each category qualify for the finals in March. The location is on the Madonna lower lift line at Smugglers’ Notch.

For more information about the Vertical Challenge Presented by Chevrolet, families can visit the tour’s official website at ski-vc.com. Smugglers’ Notch is a year-round family vacation resort in the Green Mountains, located 30 miles east of Burlington. Their website is smuggs.com.
